- Excellent for core conditioning
- Easily adaptable to all fitness levels
- Portable and easy to setup
- Handles / foot stirrups: To support use of both hand and foot based exercises
- Straps: The core component to the product, a quality nylon webbing material
- Buckles: Attached to the straps, the buckles allow you to adjust the length of the straps to accommodate for various exercises.
- Anchor: The part of the trainer that's fixed to the anchor point. It can be a loop that is threaded around something and fixed in place, or a door anchor which sits over the door and is pulled shut. I use a caribiner to link the anchor strap to the two adjustable straps.
Suspension Training
Suspension training is form of bodyweight training that utilises a simple set of webbing straps and your own body weight to build strength, improve balance and stability and develop core strength.
The benefits of a suspension training regime are:
The suspension trainer needs an anchor point, it needs to be a solid, safe structure to which the suspension trainer is attached. This must be capable of supporting your bodyweight. This can be a standard household door or beam of some kind, for outdoors, football goalposts, a basketball hoop mounting frame, a solid tree branch, etc.
The main anchor point is about 2.5-3m to leave the adjustable tapes mounted at 2m.
There are various suspension trainers available but they're commonly made up of the following components:
